The US mission to evacuate as many people as possible ended just before midnight, local time, on August 31. More than 122,000 people were airlifted out of Afghanistan since rescue operations began on August 14. President Joe Biden also asserted on August 22 that all Afghan refugees will face a thorough vetting process. Afghans don't pose much of a serious criminal threat in the United States," Nowrasteh wrote.Īs for vetting, The Hill reported that Afghan evacuees were sent to transit centers in third countries like Germany to undergo security checks before being allowed to enter the US. "In other words, native‐born Americans were about 11.6 times as likely to be incarcerated as Afghan immigrants.

That same year, US citizens in the same age range were incarcerated at a rate of 1,477 per 100,000 people. In a post written for the think tank on August 16, Nowrasteh cited statistics showing that in 2017, Afghan immigrants aged 18 to 54 in the US were incarcerated at a rate of 127 per 100,000 people. However, experts like Alex Nowrasteh, director of immigration studies at the Center for Global Liberty and Prosperity at the Cato Institute think tank, believe there is no good reason to block Afghan refugees. Resident Evil Survivor is available on the PS1."I'm not going to be responsible for seeing our little girls raped and killed in the streets because we wanted to bring people that are poorly vetted into the United States," Perry said.

Hopefully the project continues to progress smoothly into a state where the entire game is playable. Players can even catch an example of this in the video, as the narrator says "Resident Evil 2" on the main menu screen. This project was likely not as easy as just changing the original game's POV, but a full-scale rebuilding of Survivor using assets from other games. While the original Resident Evil: Survivor certainly has its fans, Watkins and their team deserve a lot of credit for they have managed to create so far. Watkins clarifies the purpose of releasing this test footage in the description, stating, "This video is just to document what can be done with PlayStation mods."

The mod is apparently also playable on the original PS1 hardware, not just through an emulator on a PC. In this new video, Watkins provides early test footage of the mod, noting in the video's description that "a lot of polishing still required" like the changing of sound effects and what not. Not too long ago did Watkins originally reveal the Resident Evil: Survivor Redux mod, announcing that the demo was then available to play. Just like the old games, Watkins equips the protagonist with the handgun and fires multiple shots into the zombies, then makes sure they stay down by firing into them on the ground. Watkins briefly shows off the inventory screen, arranged and fitted with sound effects reminiscent of the original Resident Evil, before encountering the first zombies in the game. From the very start, the changes are clear, as all of the light-gun UI elements are gone, and there being just a simple locked camera angle on the protagonist as he emerges from a wrecked helicopter.

Over 20 years later, first-person gameplay is a big part of the Resident Evil experience, like with the recent Resident Evil 7 and Resident Evil Village games. Unlike the atmospheric third-person gameplay offered by the original Resident Evil trilogy, Survivor was set entirely in first-person. The developer of the Survivor: Redux mod has shared new footage of the game, showing a title that looks a bit closer to the original PS1 Resident Evil games.Ĭritics and fans did not look upon Resident Evil Survivor too fondly when it released back in 2000.
